Many different activities of carvacrol such as antimicrobial, antifungal, antitumor, analgesic, antispasmodic, antiinflammatory, angiogenic, antiparasitic and insecticidal have been shown. Carvacrol can inhibit the growth and kill the pathogens which produce harmful toxins in the gut and are associated with gastroenteritis, haemorrhagic diarrhoea and kidney failure. Carvacrol inhibits these bacteria by damaging their cell membrane integrity. Thanks to this activity, carvacrol helps the balance of the digestive system and supports the immune system. What is particularly interesting, is that carvacrol has a minimal impact on probiotic species found in the gut.
